Our Story

SocialCoast || Inspire Action by Celebrating Community

Our goals and ideals:

Our primary goal is to contribute to the growth and health of this community by inspiring homegrown people (and those newly established) to engage in activities that contribute to the overall welfare of the communities we live in. We believe that responsible and thoughtful engagement in our actions is the best way to cause positive, long lasting change in the place we inhabit everyday.

By encouraging a welcoming, informed and even fun atmosphere leading up to and during our actions, we hope to demystify the elements of activism that tend to discourage those who would otherwise happily join us in the enterprise of hope and optimism. With this in mind, our other constant aim is to drive forward with utter sincerity, determination, and enthusiasm.

In our organizing, we work to reveal systemic oppression and inequalities through the fight for environmental, social, and economic justice. We organize with people and groups who are sustaining a community principled on justice, equality, freedom, and compassion.

How we do it:

At SocialCoast, we are building a foundation for local grassroots organizing based upon three core pillars:

AWARENESS

SocialCoast highlights organizations doing positive and instrumental work in the community, and aims to connect people to the causes they are passionate about. By doing this, we strive to enrich local organizations, and help strengthen the progressive movement towards positive change.

COMMUNITY

At SocialCoast, we believe there is no real community without real action. We strive to provide people with tangible action opportunities, so they can get their hands dirty, seeing and feeling the positive difference they can make in the world.

ACTION

As individuals, there is an opportunity to discover the world around us. With greater awareness, comes a clearer vision for a sustainable future. SocialCoast highlights current and important local issues, and strives to source through independent media.

Get involved:

We have a great group of core volunteers and are hoping to add a few more enthusiastic people to help us with:

Videography and photography: To capture local community action events to help show how fun the movement can be.
Journalism: To help us share the stories of what our and other organizations are doing in the community and making stronger connections to the local media.
Marketing: We want to reach as many people from as many diverse sectors of the community as possible.
Web design and programming: We are constantly improving our site, and could really use some help to streamline the process.

Find out how to get involved through our Take Action page. If you would like to get in touch, please call Eric or Lliam and we would love to meet you for a coffee, or a beer.
